While grownups at Black Box Industries work to improve the handheld gizmo that's this years high-tech must have, neighborhood kid Toby Toe Thompson has something even better: he's found the Wishing Rock. Be careful what you wish for, Toe! Spy Kids filmmaker Robert Rodriguez hatches a fun-filled story of the chaos that erupts when folks young and old get their hands on the rainbow-striped stone. Hang out with an army of tiny outer-space friends? Turn a pesky brother into a beetle? Own a mountain of cash? Be the most powerful person in the world? Great young talents join stars Jon Cryer, William H. Macy, Leslie Mann and James Spader in the hilarious not-so-tall tales of Shorts.

Based on the feature film about a magic wish-granting rock, Shorts sends players through 26 levels of action-filled platforming and puzzles. Gamers join Nose Noseworthy, Loogie Short, Toe Thompson, and Helvetica Black as they use their unique skills to battle the power-hungry Mr. Black and reverse the unforeseen, Monkey's Paw-like side effects of wishes granted by the magical rainbow rock. Players use their stylus and touch screen to navigate a laboratory, a factory, and a castle, enlisting the help of tiny aliens, huge wasps, and flying dinosaurs for battles against bomb-shooting crocodiles, poisonous snakes, and vile booger monsters. Each level contains keys that help gamers advance, heart pieces to increase health capacity, and energy balls that power special abilities such as telekinesis, invincibility, and hover jumping. ~ Christopher Brown, All Game Guide

Tiny Toy Stories [VHS]
Before Toy Story, there was Tin Toy. John Lasseter and the creative geniuses at Pixar made landmark short films that paved the way for their feature-length films. This dandy collection contains their five shorts made between 1984 and 1989. The only throwaway is The Adventures of André & Wally B., the earliest short, barely two minutes long. The famous hopping lamp (now part of the company's logo) appears in Luxo Jr. and illustrates how Pixar's sense of humor is so crucial to its success. There is real personality here, as a "father" lamp is surprised by his "son." That essence comes to life in the Oscar-winning Tin Toy. This film about a baby playing with a wind-up doll is a blueprint for Toy Story as is Knickknack, a delightful and very funny short about a snowman who will do anything to get out of his snow globe. An essential for any fan of computer animation. --Doug Thomas
